He got his start in the 1980s, appearing in several popular shows in Hong Kong, gaining fame as one of the "Five Tigers" group of actors. Lau also had a burgeoning film career, appearing in director Wong Kar-Wai's classic debut, "As Tears Go By," in 1988 and the drama "A Moment of Romance" in 1990. His star continued to rise in the new millennium with roles in the 2002 action film "Infernal Affairs" and the martial-arts hit "House of Flying Daggers." Lau has also had many number one hits on the Asian pop charts.
